Generating solar energy from Irish sunshine

Grainworks Ireland

Grianworks have assembled an experienced team of engineers, project managers and planning professionals who specialise in the delivery of solar farms in the Republic of Ireland.

Since 2015, we have been actively involved in Ireland’s solar energy sector, contributing to the development of over 3,000 acres of solar farms nationwide. Over the years, we’ve partnered with hundreds of Irish landowners, building strong and positive relationships within the farming community through the successful delivery of solar projects. We share a common goal with our partners: to bring clean, operational solar farms to rural lands. Recognising that dedicating land to solar energy is a significant decision, Grianworks supports and guides landowners through every stage of the process to ensure the best possible outcome.

Grianworks are specialists in developing grid-connected solar farms in the Republic of Ireland.

Once suitable land is identified, we work closely with participating landowners to agree an option for lease arrangement. This agreement enables us to manage and fund the solar farm’s development, with the lease taking effect once the necessary planning and regulatory consents are secured. Following the receipt of these consents, construction of the solar farm can begin.

Grainworks - solar energy Ireland

The roll out of solar farms in Ireland has accelerated rapidly in recent years.

Since the first 25 acre solar farm was energised in 2021, over 4,250 acres of grid-connected solar projects have been constructed nationwide. Solar energy now plays a vital role in meeting Ireland’s growing energy needs — and will continue to provide clean, secure electricity for generations to come.

Every new solar farm contributes to protecting and strengthening Ireland’s electricity supply. This has never been more important, as global energy uncertainty continues to affect us all. Solar power offers a sustainable way to diversify agricultural land use while maintaining Ireland’s valuable farmland. To put this in perspective, the 4,250 acres of solar farms currently in operation represent just 0.47% of the country’s arable land.*

To further secure our energy future and reduce carbon emissions, the Irish government has set an ambitious target of delivering 8 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy by 2030. Achieving this will supply a significant share of Ireland’s electricity demand while using only around 2% of our available arable land.*
